The American Legion Nonantum Post 440 is open with limited guests per event.  While the Governor has state May 29th as an opeing date, we will still be following the guidelines in place until The City of Newton tells us differently.

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our dear Women’s Auxiliary member and Gold Star mother:
Anna “Nikki” Likely, of Auburndale passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late Lieutenant John I. Likely of the Newton Police Force, she was predeceased by her three sons, Richard, Daniel and James Likely. She is survived by three daughters, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nikki was the dear sister of Andrew and Frederick Corporale and Katie Lydon. She will be dearly missed by her granddaughter Virginia “Ginnie” Likely Reece and great-grandson Kyle of Wayland and niece Patricia "Tishy" Cheney of Hanover.
Nikki worked as a receptionist for the City of Newton Parks Department for many years. She was an active and beloved member of the St. Bernard Parish community, American Gold Star Mothers, the American Legion and Girls’ High School Alumni.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 25th at 10AM in St. Bernard Parish, 1523 Washington St. West Newton followed by interment in Newton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 3-7PM in the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St. West Newton. Donations in her memory may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at JDRF.org or New England Center and Home for Veterans at NECHV.org.
Please join the Ladies Auxiliary on Monday at 5:45pm at the Funeral Home for a prayer service at 6pm. All Post 440 Family members are invited.

The Food Bank scheduled for Friday, May 21st, will still be happeing, even with the inclement weather.  Please note that all groceries at this time will be prepacked and will be given out to you.  Depending on the weather, you will either drive through or you will pick up inside the building.  Please note that only 10 people will be allowed into the building at a time.  Please stay in your car or in line with 6 foot distance until you are allowed in.  Please note that no groceries will be given out until 10am, so please do not get to the Post early as there will be NO ONE allowed in the building.  The building will be CLOSED!

 

 

Since our charter in 1952, our American Legion Post has been welcoming VETERANS from all branches of our Armed Forces. Today, we continue to welcome all military personnel serving our country. Joining our Post enables you to continue serving your God, Country and Community. Our mission is to implement the goals, aspirations, dreams, peace and blessings for our country, friends and families embodied in our preamble below.
