Remembering the Vietnam Veteran
50 Years too Late
They came back with scars unseen and many, missing parts
Home was not the same for them, we broke so many hearts
Years go by, people grow, they think they see a different light
So, they asked the Vets forgiveness, to make them feel alright
Now 50 years have passed, we have learned and understand
Just how brutally we treated them, here, in their homeland
With so many gone now, when we finally know their plight
We say Thank You, and they forgive us, they believe it’s right
They were drafted young Americans, who simply had no choice,
The many countless horrors adding pain to their often-quiet voice
They will be the first to stand to recognize another mangled Vet
and the old wounds that we gave them, they’d rather just forget
Why when it’s almost too late, when most of them are gone, forgot
We have to scramble to include them, from facts we were not taught
God forgive US all as we honor why they stood and fought.
And pray for every one of them because our freedoms cannot be bought.
